The other white meat

Apparently I have a thing for Jennie-O turkey products... it wasn't until I tried to load the freezer did I realize how much I'd actually purchased. 
 I always buy their turkey bacon and it is BY FAR the best out there.  And I often get the ground turkey.  But the hot dogs, sausage and breakfast sausage all looked good too, so we'll be having turkey coming out of ears for the next few weeks.

I typically try to stick to chicken and turkey at home and save red meat for eating out and special occasions.

This photo doesn't even include the package of lean ground turkey that I cooked when I got home.  I mixed in a packet of taco seasoning and made a big salad with romaine lettuce, spinach, cabbage, some shredded cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado and my newest favorite - pepperoncinis! I topped it off with salsa so I didn't even use salad dressing.
Something I've learned about myself is that I eat when I'm bored and to just fill the time. So meals like salads are great because they take me awhile to eat and keep me occupied.  This huge salad took so long to finish that I wasn't tempted to head back to the kitchen to munch on something else while we watched TV.

Can you taste the difference in turkey products?

I swear I can't taste the difference between ground turkey and ground beef, and I actually prefer the taste of turkey bacon to pork bacon. Lately for breakfast I've been having 2 slices of turkey bacon for only 70 calories with my 3+1 eggs (3 whites, 1 yolk) It's so good, doesn't even feel like diet food, and because of all the protein it keeps me full for a long time.

*Fun fact about me though: Roasted turkey (like Thanksgiving) is my LEAST favorite way to consume turkey.  I could never eat it again and be just fine with that.

  1. I cannot tell the difference between beef and turkey when it is ground. I really like turkey, but I'll never be a turkey bacon fan....don't know why but I just can't do it!!
