The Fun Just Keeps on Going

Last night, Donny and I headed down to Long Beach to visit our friend Chad and see his new apartment. He lives in one of those fancy buildings where you have to be "buzzed" in and everything.

After chatting and catching up (and counting all the visible Disney memorabilia in his apartment) we headed out for an exploratory-run.

We started with his complex and we walked around pretending we were fancy like him.
His rooftop lounge with a view of the Queen Mary
Best of friends
We headed toward the beach and dodged around all the people walking around, eating and enjoying the pleasant socal evening.
Day 6
We did 4 miles total, but walked the last .5 back since there were so many people.

We headed back to his place, cleaned up a bit, and then headed back out to find a fun dinner place.

We ended up at Beachwood BBQ & Brewhouse because the boys were happy with the menu, and I was happy with the fire pits and pretty lights.

The menu was filled with so many amazing options it took us forever to decide.
We ended up with two appetizers:
Tater Tot Casserole that came with a duck gravy and BBQ chicken nachos that came in a bowl full of cheesy goodness.

For our main dishes...
Donny chose the smoked ham sandwich with ham glazed with coffee, brie and other deliciousness
It's super dark - but those shapes are huge pieces of ham
Chad got the Buffalo Sloppy Joe with ground buffalo, friend sage and pickled onions.
I may have snuck a few of his sweet potato fries...
Since our apps were so heavy, I decided to get a salad, but opted for the full size instead of the half. Silly, silly Gabby.
I got the fried green tomatos salad with smoked mozzarella, arugula and a tangy Tabasco vinaigrette.
I liked my salad, but it did feel like it was missing something. I would have added a nut maybe...

The waitress brought the check out in a mason jar and that about made my night.

We walked back to Chad's apartment stuffed to the brim.  Donny did find the energy to spend some time on a soapbox
We didn't get home until after 10 pm and I had a 4:45 am wake up call this morning because I had to teach cycle at a gym further from home.  But it's always easier to be tired when it's because you've been doing something fun!

We're heading to the Hollywood Bowl tonight to see Steve Martin (Yeah the actor, comedian, author, playwright, producer, musician) and the Steep Canyon Rangers with Edie Brickell.
Donny always says that Steve Martin's banjo playing blows all those trendy indie bands out of the water (a la Mumford and Sons)
It will be another late night and I know I said goodbye to such foolishness in July... but this will be the end of the excitement for a while a couple days :)
